This is the first paper that we compare giant molecules and proteins in detail. They share a lot in common in terms of the features of their building blocks, the way they are engineered, and the structure-function relationships. The analogy between protein domains and molecular nanoparticles is described in terms of their roles of the final products. The review survey the field of macromolecular science and protein science extensively and is written in an easy-to-follow fashion like an essay. In this way, we hope that it would address a broader readership and inspire special interests in this emerging direction.
