Hydride-Induced Cleavage of C-O Bond in Pyran Ring of 2-Pyranylidene Carbene Complexes: Mechanism and Synthetic Application

This paper reports (a) a novel reductive demetalation/skeletal rearrangement of 2-pyranylidene carbene complexes (M = Cr, W) leading to cyclopenta-1,3-dienolates, via hydride-induced cleavage of C-O bond in pyran ring followed by ring closure of unsaturated acylmetalates and reductive elimination, and (b) a novel synthetic approach to generate important unsaturated acylmetalates from M(CO)6 (M = Cr, W) and readily available 1-lithio-1,3-butadienes.
